10 Ways to use Bi Carb (plus bonus Deodorant Paste recipe!)

Bicarb is such such a simple ingredient that I use everyday.

Also known as Sodium Bicarbonate & Bicarbonate soda, bi-carb is a powerhouse of a product which is cheap, non-toxic and kind to the environment, and is the answer to all your household and beauty needs.

Deodorise a space

Fill a contain with bi carb, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil if you desire.  You can leave the container open, or put a lid on it with some holes punched in.  A great way to deodorise a cupboard or your fridge.

Fruit and vegetable scrub

Clean dirt and residue off fresh fruit and vegetables, just sprinkle a little bi-carb on a clean cloth or vegetable brush. Scrub and rinse.

Clean cleaning cloths & sponges

Clean dirty, smelly sponges and cloths -- remove odours from sponges by soaking overnight in bi-carb solution.

Cleaning your Oven

Sprinkle bi carb over your oven door and then spray it with a bottle filled with vinegar or water and citric acid.  The reaction will life cooking spills.  Wipe over with a clean cloth.

Stainless steel Pots and Pans

Cleaning stainless steel appliances and sinks -- rub stainless steel with a moist cloth and dry bi-carb to shine. Rinse and dry.

Carpet deodoriser

To eliminate pet & other odours, sprinkle a handful of bi-carb onto your carpets, leave for 20 minutes and then vacuum.  You can rub some essential oil through the bi carb before doing this to add a wonderful aroma.  Think Lavender, Lemon or Geranium!  (Be sure not to use an essential oil that has strong colour such as etiver or Myrrh.

Bathroom cleaner

Mix bi-carb with water to a paste,  to scrub into grout with a sponge or toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly. Clean the bath tub -- sprinkle bi-carb on a clean, damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry.  Sometimes I clean with vinegar first.

Clean Quartz crystals

You won't want to do this with all of your crystal collection, but you can do it with Quartz that has hard to clean corners or a rough texture that dust easily gets stuck in (This includes Amethyst, Citrine, Carnelian, Smokey Quartz etc - but be sure it's Quartz)  Put your crystals in a bowl of clean water, sprinkle citric acid, then sprinkle bi carb.  Watch all the dust dirt and grime lift.  Rinse with clean water and let dry.

Beauty Regime

Mix some bicarb with distilled or purified water into a paste and use as a face or body exfoliation.  Follow with your favourite moisturiser or serum.

Skincare Production - deodorant paste recipe included

We use Bi carb for a few purposes in our skincare making process.  It's a fantastic base ingredient to make super effective deodorants, and we use it to adjust the PH of some of the products we make.  Here is a simple deodorant paste recipe you can make at home:
